Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has warned against the deployment of "Syria-based foreign terrorists" to the areas near the Islamic Republic's border for involvement in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Tasnim reports.

Rouhani's comments come amid mounting evidence that Turkey has been deploying mercenaries from Syria to fight alongside the Azerbaijani army against Nagorno-Karabakh.

Speaking at a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday, October 7 Rouhani said Iran has already fought terrorists in its neighboring countries to keep them away from its borders.

Rouhani also said every effort should be made to prevent the Karabakh conflict from growing into a regional war, and warned third parties against fueling the flames of fighting.

He expressed regret over the ongoing war, calling for an end to the fighting.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey, launched a large-scale offensive against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27, shelling Armenian positions and civilian settlements with large caliber weapons and rocket systems. Armenia and Karabakh have introduced martial law and total mobilization. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. International and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.

Donations can be made to Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, which has launched a fundraising campaign to support Karabakh amid Azerbaijan's aggression.
