Armenia Foreign Minister meets OSCE envoys in Washington, DC

Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who is on a working visit to the United States, met the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs Igor Popov (Russia), Stéphane Visconti (France), Andrew Schofer (U.S.), as well as the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk on Friday, .

The sides weighed in on the situation on the ground in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. Mnatsakanyan expressed deep concern over Azerbaijan’s undermining of the agreements on cessation of hostilities reached on October 10 and October 17, and stressed that Azerbaijan's ambitions to resolve the conflict by military means are a challenge for the region.

The sides reiterated the immediate implementation of the agreements on the cessation of hostilities and the establishment of a sustainable ceasefire maintained by verification mechanisms. The need for continuation of the peace process exclusively within the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship was highlighted.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey and Syrian and Libyan mercenaries deployed by Ankara, started a war against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. Foreign and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.
