Karabakh captures Islamist terrorist fighting for Azerbaijan

The Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army has captured a Syrian terrorist recruited by Azerbaijan to fight in the war against Artsakh (Karabakh), the Defense Army said Friday, October 30.

"Even a brief interrogation leaves no doubt about the presence of terrorists on the Azerbaijani side," the Army captioned a video of the person identified as Islamist-extremist terrorist Mehred Muhammad Alshkher.

Alshkher, who was born in Syria's Hama, is married with three children. He says he was transferred from Turkey to the conflict zone alongside 250 other mercenaries on October 19. According to him, they had been promised $2000 each but haven't been paid so far.

After sustaining an injury, he was abandoned by fellow mercenaries and Azeri soldiers. He said the terrorists are usually advancing in the first line, followed by the Azerbaijani military on the 2nd and 3rd lines. Before being transferred to the front, Alshkher said they were trained by Turkish military instructors.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey and Syrian and Libyan mercenaries deployed by Ankara, started a war against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. Foreign and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.
