Woman tells of inhumane treatment after captivity in Azerbaijan

An elderly woman who returned to Armenia from Azerbaijan on October 29 has told investigators about the inhumane treatment she received while held captive in Azerbaijan.

According to her, she was taken to Baku where she was treated "like an animal, a dog".

The woman also said she met other Armenian captives who were also treated badly, and was told later that the Azerbaijanis have killed the other captives.

Besides the elderly civilian, the bodies of 29 Armenian soldiers killed in fighting were transferred to the Armenian side as well.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey and Syrian and Libyan mercenaries deployed by Ankara, started a war against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. Foreign and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.
