Several Armenian opposition leaders and political figures who arranged a rally amid martial law in the country were arrested on Thursday, November 12 night, the National Security Service reports.

A thousands-strong crown gathered in Yerevan Wednesday to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan after he sighed a statement with Russia and Azerbaijan to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The NSS has arrested the former director of the NSS, founder of Hayrenik (Homeland) party Artur Vanetsyan, oligarch and the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan, Republican Party spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov, as well as former parliament deputy speaker, Hayrenik party member Ara Sahakyan.

Vanetsyan and Sharmazanov were summoned to the Security Service after the rally and were arrested upon arrival, while Tsarukyan was detained before the start of the gathering.

Law enforcement authorities have also arrested former presidential aide, National Security party president Garnik Isagհulyan, Memberս of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Gegham Manukyan, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, Masis mayor Davit Hambardzumyan, Suren Surenyants from "Democratic Alternative" party, founder of One Armenia Party Artur Ghazinyan.

They were all arrested for violating martial law and will probably remain detained for 72 hours.
