Top military official resigns in Armenia

The head of the military control service of the Armenian Ministry of Defense, Movses Hakobyan, submitted his resignation on Wednesday, November 18, Aysor.am reports.

Hakobyan said he will elaborate on his decision to resign at a press conference he is planning to give.

A colonel-general, Hakobyan was appointed in the post on November 19, 2019.

Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan resigned earlier, as did a handful of other politicians and lawmakers, amid political turmoil that has been brewing in the country ever since the announcement of a statement to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev have signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Karabakh (Artsakh) President Arayik Harutyunyan has said he has agreed to the deal signed by Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan.
