Former President, chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan has met Russia's ambassador to Yerevan Sergey Kopyrkin at the initiative of the Russian side, deputy chairman of RPA Armen Ashotyan said in a Facebook post on Thursday, February 4.

During the meeting, a wide range of issues related to the consequences of the war in Nagorno-Karabakh were considered, Ashotyan revealed.

"President Sargsyan thanked Kopyrkin for the consistent efforts of the Russian leadership aimed at maintaining the ceasefire, resolving the humanitarian problems of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, and stressed the importance of continuing the activities of the Russian Federation as a co-chairing country of the OSCE Minsk Group for a lasting peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, based on the basic principles, including the right of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh to self-determination.

At the meeting, the importance of efforts to return prisoners of war and other persons detained in Azerbaijan to Armenia, as well as the search for the bodies of dead servicemen was emphasized.

At the request of the ambassador, Ashotyan said, President Sargsyan weighed in on issues of the political situation in the country, as well as the new geopolitical realities in the region.

Ambassador Kopyrkin, in turn, presented the position of Russia and its efforts within topics discussed at the meeting.
