Armenia Ombudsman raises POW return at meeting with EU diplomats

Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan on Tuesday, February 23 met a delegation headed by Toivo Klaar, the European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia, to discuss the immediate return of the Armenian captives from Azerbaijan.

Head of EU Delegation to Armenia Andrea Wiktorin too participated in the meeting.

Tatoyan raised the issue of the urgent repatriation of the Nagorno-Karabakh prisoners of war and civilian captives, noting that authorities in Azerbaijan artificially delay the process in order to cause mental suffering to the Armenian society, specifically to the families of the captives.

The Ombudsman also detailed the EU diplomats on Azerbaijan's policy of disseminating hate and enmity against Armenians.

Since the first day of hostilities, both the Armenian and Karabakh Human Rights Defenders have worked to raise human rights and international humanitarian law violations by Azerbaijan. They have published multiple reports on the matter as a result of extensive field work and detailed evidence on works perpetrated against Armenian civilians and servicemen alike.
