Bright Armenia withdraws memorandum proposal

Bright Armenian party will not be signing a memorandum with the authorities, party leader Edmon Marukyan said, contrary to what the opposition lawmakers proposed a little more than a week ago.

"At this stage, our proposal is no longer valid," Aysor.am cited Marukyan as saying on Wednesday, March 10.

On February 28, Marukyan made a proposal to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan as a way out of the political crisis in the country, maintaining that it was "the best way" to go. He said the authorities should not dismiss any member of the top military brass for now, in return pledging to sign a memorandum and not nominate or vote for another candidate for Prime Minister, so that Pashinyan resigns and takes the country to snap elections.

On Wednesday, Pashinyan did fire Chief of the Army General Staff Onik Gasparyan and proposed appointing Lieutenant-General Artak Davtyan in the post.

Marukyan added, however, that snap elections are still on Bright Armenia's agenda.
