Stepan Galstyan to remain Acting Chief of Army Staff for 5 more days

Lieutenant General Stepan Galstyan will continue his role as Acting Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces for at least another 5 days, Chairman of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security Andranik Kocharyan said Monday, March 15.

Kocharyan noted that martial law will sooner or later be lifted in the country and recommended that opposition lawmakers first consult the Defense Ministry on the matter.

"Today we do not have a Chief of Army General Staff, although Lieutenant General Stepan Galstyan will perform the duties for at least 5 more days. But there is a Defense Minister after all, whose opinion should be asked," Kocharyan said.

The opposition Prosperous Armenia party earlier submitted a project to abolish martial law in the country. The Committee did not approve the bill.
