Makunts: Pashinyan expected to resign as Armenia PM in late April

Leader of the ruling My Step bloc, lawmaker Lilit Makunts said on Monday, April 5 that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is expected to resign at the end of April.

Pashinyan announced on March 18 that Armenia will hold snap parliamentary elections on June 20. The PM came under fire after signing a statement with the Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh almost 45 days after the start of the military hostilities. Under the deal, the Armenian side was forced to return all the seven regions surrounding Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.

Makunts told reporters on Monday that the ruling bloc enjoys strong ratings, Aysor.am reports.

Asked whether Pashinyan will still be Prime Minister when he pays tribute to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims on April 24, the lawmaker said no discussion has happened on the matter.

"I suppose Nikol Pashinyan will resign at the end of April," Makunts said.
