Armenian Genocide recognition included in EU report on Turkey

The recognition of the Armenian Genocide has been included in the European Parliament Report on the 2019-2020 Commission Reports on Turkey, Member of the European Parliament from Sweden Charlie Weimers said in a tweet on Thursday, April 22, two days before the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.

"Very glad that the Foreign Relations Committee decided to include a recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the EU Parliament Report on the 2019-2020 Commission Reports on Turkey. Good show of solidarity by colleagues," Weimers wrote.

On April 24, 1915, a large group of Armenian intellectuals was rounded up and assassinated in Constantinople by the Ottoman government. On April 24, Armenians worldwide will be commemorating the 106th anniversary of the Genocide which continued until 1923. Some three dozen countries, hundreds of local government bodies and international organizations have so far recognized the killings of 1.5 million Armenians as Genocide. Turkey denies to this day.
