Armenia "will do everything" to restore occupied Karabakh territories

The Armenian side will do everything to return the occupied territories of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast through a diplomatic way, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan said in an interview with RIA Novosti, ahead of his visit to Moscow on April 26.

"The territory of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO) with specific borders is recognized by the international community, and we will do everything to return the occupied territories of NKAO through a diplomatic way," Grigoryan said.

The Secretary added that the Karabakh conflict has not been resolved and cannot be settled by force or the threat of force.

"By resorting to military aggression in September 2020, the Azerbaijani authorities violated one of the three basic principles of the peaceful settlement of the conflict: the principle of non-use of force or the threat of force. The co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group are in solidarity with us, having emphasized in their last joint statement that the conflict should be resolved "on the basis of principles and elements well known to the parties."

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side has returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
