Charges brought against ex-chief of Armenian Army Staff

Charges have been brought against the former Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian army, Colonel-General Movses Hakobyan, Factor.am reports.

Hakobyan was summoned for questioning by the country's National Security Service, after which he was charged under Article 306 of the Criminal Code (unauthorized disclosure of state secrets).

Hakobyan was reportedly released on his own recognizance.

In November 2020, Hakobyan declared that Armenia had acquired SU-30SM fighter aircraft, Osa-AK systems, but did not use them during the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. The Ministry of Defense denied this information and stated that they contain state secrets. Hakobyan was also involved in a spat over Armnia's alleged use of Iskander missiles during the war.
