ICRC visiting Armenian POWs whose captivity is confirmed by Baku

The International Committee of the Red Cross is visiting those Armenian prisoners of war whose detention has been officially confirmed by Azerbaijan․

According to information possessed by the Armenian side, at last 200 prisoners of war and civilians captured during and after the hostilities in Karabakh are currently being held hostage in Baku. Azerbaijan, however, has confirmed the detention of only some 70 Armenians.

"We keep visiting the people detained in relation to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, whose detention has been officially confirmed to us," the .

"We help their families to maintain contact with their loved ones usually through Red Cross messages, verbal messages and also phone calls and pre-recorded videos."

The defenders of the rights of Armenian captives in the European Court of Human Rights revealed earlier that 19 of the hundreds of Armenian civilians and servicemen who were taken captive by Azerbaijan during military hostilities in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), have been tortured and killed, which amounts to a war crime.
