UN says Azerbaijan hinders humanitarian mission to Karabakh

Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General, has said Azerbaijan is hindering the organization's humanitarian mission to Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh).

"We would like to have the unhindered humanitarian access in Nagorno‑Karabakh, as we ask for in other parts of the world," Dujarric told a press conference on Wednesday, May 12.

"To date, this has not been possible because we've not received the necessary authorization from the Azeri authorities. However, we are hopeful that we'll see progress on this soon."

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side has returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
