Georgia opening land borders from June 1

Georgian authorities will open land borders from June 1, according to a decision approved on Tuesday, May 25.

The country's land borders have been closed since March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"The Interdepartmental Coordination Council decided to open land borders from June 1," Giorgi Gibradze from the Council told a briefing, Sputnik-Georgia reports.

International travelers will be able to cross the Georgian border with a document certifying their full vaccination against Covid-19, or with a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival.

"Persons who arrive in Georgia with a PCR test will be obliged to take a second PCR test within the next 72 hours," Gibradze said. He also recommended that all foreign visitors have medical insurance with them, which will cover the costs of coronavirus treatment, if need be.
