Armenia: Pashianyan invites Ter-Petrosyan, Kocharyan to live debate

Acting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has challenged first and second presidents Levon Ter-Petrosyan and Robert Kocharyan to a debate, ahead of snap parliamentary elections in June.

Pashinyan said he will be waiting for Ter-Petrosyan and Kocharyan live on TV on June 18, two days before the national vote. According to him, the previous leaders of Armenia should respond to his recent statements about and assessments of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

"I will ask Robert Kocharyan why Nagorno-Karabakh was left out of the negotiation process. Hence the conspiratorial plan to surrender Meghri to Azerbaijan, which Kocharyan took to the Security Council for discussion," Pashinyan said at a meeting with supporters on Sunday, May 30.

Pashinyan announced on March 18 that Armenia will hold snap parliamentary elections on June 20. The PM came under fire after signing a statement with the Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh almost 45 days after the start of the military hostilities. Under the deal, the Armenian side was forced to return all the seven regions surrounding Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
