Azerbaijan to commission Fizuli airport by late September

An international airport in the city of Fizuli, which came under Azerbaijan's control during the 44-day war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in fall 2020, will be commissioned by late September, local media cited Azerbaijan Airlines Vice President Etibar Huseynov.

The airport will have a three-kilometer runway, Huseynov added, as well as air navigation and other equipment.

Azerbaijan is also building airports in Zangilan and Lachin districts, both of which were captured by Azerbaijan during hostilities.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side has returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
