Karabakh war: Health authorities still unable to identify 50 bodies

Health authorities in Armenia are unable to identify the remains of 50 victims of the Nagorno-Karabakh war even through DNA analysis.

All the bodies recovered during or after the 44-day war in Karabakh in fall 2020 have been examined, the Health Ministry said, but 149 bodies identified through DNA have yet to match entries in the parent database.

Other remains have been identified and information about them has been transferred to the relevant body but their families have not applied for arranging their funerals yet.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side has returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
