Rally in Karabakh demands President's resignation

The residents of Stepanakert, the capital of Nagorno-Karabakh, rallied on Monday, June 21 to demand the designation of President Arayik Harutyunyan.

Harutyunyan's visit to the Yerevan headquarters of the Civil Contract party, which won majority in Armenia's snap parliamentary elections on Sunday, produced a rising tide of discontent among the residents of Karabakh, Aravot reports.

The President's congratulatory message to Armenia's acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan too caused a lot of controversy. A rally-goer charged that the people of Artsakh (Karabakh) can't congratulate Pashinyan.

"This [campaign] does not pursue any political goals, and we wouldn't like political forces to pursuit their interests here. The people are her to tell him (Harutyunyan - Ed.) to leave," the protester said.
