The European Court of Human Rights has ordered Azerbaijan to pay 20,200 euros in compensation after the country lost three separate cases filed by six plaintiffs, Jam News reports.

In the first case, four citizens of Azerbaijan applied to Court and complained about non-enforcement or delay in enforcement of decisions of national courts. According to the court ruling, within three months the government must pay compensation to the complainants: E. Abbasov and Z. Aliyeva – 3850 euros, A. Nagiyev – 1800 euros, A. Bakirov – 1200 euros.

In the second case, plaintiff Elshan Aliyev appealed to the ECHR and accused the Azerbaijani government of banning him from leaving the country. According to the complainant, his right to freedom of movement was violated and he demanded effective measures to be implemented in order to protect his rights during the consideration of his complaints.

The parties to the case came to an agreement, and the government pledged to pay the plaintiff compensation for non-pecuniary damage of 5,000 euros, as well as 1,000 euros of legal costs.

Another case at the ECHR was opened at the suit of an Azerbaijani citizen (no name is mentioned), who complained that local courts ruled to arrest him/her while lack of sufficient evidence for this and then refused to release him/her on bail. According to the plaintiff, his rights to freedom and inviolability were violated.

The complainant’s lawyer informed the ECHR that his client had accepted the government’s offer of compensation for non-pecuniary damage in the amount of 3,500 euros for dropping the claim.
