Kocharyan says Armenia bloc will be radical opposition in parliament

Hayastan (Armenia) bloc will be a radical opposition force in the new parliament, said Robert Kocharyan, the leader of the bloc and second Armenian President, during a meeting on Tuesday, June 29.

The alliance was formed ahead of the June 20 snap parliamentary vote across the country, when the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and Reborn Armenia party teamed up to run in the elections.

"We have become parliamentary opposition, we have enough power to achieve some of our goals," Kocharyan said, adding that they will make use of that toolkit.

As an "institutional radical opposition force", Kocharyan said, the bloc will "restore the people's faith in the parliamentary opposition".

"Because in recent years the parliamentary opposition made deals with the authorities. Today, that faith in the opposition must be restored and as radical opposition, we will do it by working day and night," the second President added.

Caretaker Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party won 54% of the vote, while Hayastan bloc secured 22% of the ballots. "I Have Honor" bloc too will get seats in the parliament.
