Armenia to assume CSTO chairmanship from Sept. 16, says MP

Armenia will assume the CSTO chairmanship on September 16, "with all the ensuing consequences", lawmaker Ruben Rubinyan from the ruling Civil Contract party said in an interview with the Public TV on Wednesday, July 28.

According to him, the CSTO must respond appropriately to the situation on the country's borders, since this is the Organization's obligation.

Asked whether Armenia would again apply to the CSTO to address Azerbaijan's latest escalation, the MP said "the process continues."

In the wee hours of July 28, the units of the Azerbaijani armed forces, which had infiltrated the sovereign territory of Armenia since May 12, attacked the Armenian positions located in the north-eastern section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, triggering local battles. Three Armenian troops were killed, five others were wounded in the process, the Defense Ministry said, adding that the Azerbaijani forces have been thwarted back to their positions.
