Kremlin weighs in on Turkey, Azerbaijan's joint army plans

Russia hopes that the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey will not be at the expense of stability in the region, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Thursday, July 29, RIA Novosti reports.

Peskov's comments came after the speaker of the Turkish parliament, Mustafa Sentop, said that Turkey and Azerbaijan were negotiating the establishment of a joint Turkic army.

"Of course, Azerbaijan and Turkey are developing bilateral ties. Again, this is a sovereign matter. It is important that this does not go to the detriment of the atmosphere of stability and predictability in the region," Peskov told reporters on Thursday.

"In this regard, we have regular contacts with both Turkish and Azerbaijani partners."

Peskov added that the Kremlin is not aware of any statements by the Presidents of Turkey or Azerbaijan on the matter.
