Armenia planning to transition to professional army

The government of Armenia is planning to gradually transition to a professional army and significantly change the structure of conscription, according to a five-year action plan unveiled on Wednesday, August 18.

The Army reform plan envisages both structural and conceptual changes, and the government is going to reduce the term of military service and involve more contract troops, taking into account the prospects for the development and improvement of military service.

The government is also going to boost the efficiency of the management of the armed forces by implementing the necessary legislative amendments, aimed at solving national problems in the field of defense.

High-mobility units and forces capable of conducting long-term independent combat operations will be formed, according to the government's plan.
