Russian arms manufacturer ORSIS is negotiating the supply of weapons to Armenia, chief designer Maxim Baymetov said this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"At the Army-2021 fair, the company's management met with a delegation of the Armenian defense ministry headed by the new Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan," Baymetov said on Friday, September 17.
According to him, the Armenian partners "showed a keen interest" in the entire range of ORSIS weapons, including promising new models.
"Today a number of pre-contractual negotiations with Yerevan are underway, and we can say that ORSIS has opened a new positive page in cooperation with the Armenian side," Baymetov said.
In December 2019, ORSIS was removed from the "black list" of arms suppliers to Armenia, a lawyer for the company said back then. In August of the same year, an ORSIS representative said a criminal case under Article 376 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (“negligent attitude to service”) was instituted after the Armenian Defense Ministry breached a tender contract for the supply of arms worth several million dollars, in which the Russian company was involved.
