CSTO and IOM to take joint efforts in fighting illegal migration
A meeting between Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Nikolai Bordyuzha and Director General of the International Organization for Migration William Lacy Swing took place in Moscow.

According to the participants of the meeting, the two organizations have developed successful and fruitful cooperation based on the July 2006 agreement. This cooperation will gain momentum in the future as the illegal migration remains a topical issue, Nikolai Bordyuzha and William Lacy Swing believe.

The IOM has an expertise in dealing with migration problems, and is well aware of its most sensitive issues. CSTO has a working mechanism to handle these issues, in particular within the framework of the operation Nelegal which is regularly carried out under the aegis of the Collective Security Treaty Organization,' Nikolai Bordyuzha noted.

The CSTO hopes that the IOM will help promote cooperation with the European Union in order to take control over the whole chain of the illegal migration: from the countries of origin and transit which include many CSTO participating states to the countries of destination.

William Lacy Swing informed Nikolai Bordyuzha about the IOM activities and assured that he will visit all the CSTO states with a view to improving the interaction between the two organizations, CSTO Press Service reported.
