Lithuania supports OSCE Minsk Group in Karabakh settlement

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has expressed his country’s support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs aimed at settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Nausėda made the remarks during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Vilnius on Monday, October 4. A similar idea was expressed by the country's Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė during a meeting earlier on Monday.

"The Prime Minister has expressed her condolences to Armenia over the loss of lives in the Nagorno-Karabakh war, has shared her hope that return to the settlement of the political conflict in the format of the Chairs of the Minsk Group will be made as soon as possible, and has welcomed the determination expressed by the Prime Minister of Armenia to work for the settlement of the political conflict and peace in the whole region," Šimonytė's statement said in a statement.

Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
