Iran closes its airspace to Azerbaijan's military

Iran has closed its airspace to Azerbaijan's air force, which supplies military equipment equipment to the Nakhijevan Autonomous Republic, Haqqin.az reported Tuesday, October 5. According to Azeri media publications, the country's defense department has already been notified of the change.

"Baku regarded this decision as another betrayal against Azerbaijan, which is instigated by the Armenian government," the Defense Ministry reportedly said.

"Iran is actively using the territory of Azerbaijan as a transit for most of its transportation. First of all, we are talking about the North-South transport corridor."

"Iran's betrayal will not cause tangible harm to Azerbaijan, since the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan has preferred other routes when supplying military equipment to Nakhijevan Autonomous Republic. However, Tehran's political decision pushes Baku to unambiguous conclusions about the foreign policy reference points of the Iranian government."

Azerbaijan, which currently controls part of an interstate road in Armenia's south, has imposed strict regulations on Iranian trucks on their way to the Armenian capital over the past one month and a half, forcing them to pay $130 tolls.
