The transfer of Iraqi energy sources will be made through Turkey, the president of Turkey Abdullah Gul said on the first day of a landmark visit to Iraq on Monday. Gul met with his Iraqi counterpart Jalal Talabani in the first presidential visit in 33-years. The transfer of Iraq's energy sources would be via Turkey, Gul was reported as saying by broadcaster NTV, Turkish Daily News reports.

The two countries have however more recently pledged to work together to build security and economic ties and hopes of better cooperation improved after Iraq, Turkey and the United States agreed in November to form a joint committee to work on the problem.
