Turkey's involvement in Karabakh war "incomprehensible", Armenia tells NATO

Turkey's involvement in the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in fall 2020 is an "incomprehensible and serious problem," Armenian President Armen Sarkissian told Javier Colomina Píriz, the NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, on Thursday, October 21.

Sarkissian reminded that he raised the matter during his visit to NATO headquarters in October 2020. His comments on Thursday came amid discussions about the current situation, developments and challenges in Armenia and the region after the war.

Speaking about the humanitarian problems caused by the war, the Armenian President noted that Azerbaijan continues to hold Armenian prisoners of war and civilians, which is a gross violation of international humanitarian law.

Sarkissian also stressed Armenia's cooperation and partnership with NATO, noting that Armenia continues to make a strong contribution to the international collective efforts to establish peace and stability.
