Armenia asks ECtHR to ensure PoWs' rights are respected in Azerbaijan

Armenia has asked the European Court of Human Rights to ensure respect of the fundamental human rights of the Armenian prisoners of war captured on November 16 during an offensive launched by Azerbaijan in the province of Syunik, Representative of Armenia before the ECHR said in a statement on Monday, November 22.

"The Office of the Representative of the Republic of Armenia before the ECtHR has submitted a request to the European Court to indicate interim measures under Rule 39 of the Rules of Court against Azerbaijan, which aims to ensure respect of the captives’ rights to life and prohibition of torture envisaged by the European Convention on Human Rights."

In clashes launched by Azerbaijan on November 16, the Armenian side has confirmed deaths and injuries, while 13 soldiers have been captured by Azerbaijan. Two combat positions too have gone under the control of Azeri forces, 24 Armenian troops have gone missing.
