Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan has said that the agreement signed by Armenia and Russia in December 2020 did not stipulate the withdrawal of forces from the border near the southern province of Syunik.
Grigoryan's comments came after the Armenian opposition revealed that they have been receiving contradictory information about the document. According to the Security Council chief, the authorities are not hiding anything.
Grigoryan revealed in an interview with the Public Television that the document enabled Armenia to continue using a key road that now passes through pockets of Azerbaijan-controlled areas, until an alternative road is ready.
As soon as Armenia completed the construction of the road, Azerbaijan installed customs checkpoints on said road.
