Karabakh working to repatriate civilian detained by Azeri military

A citizen of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) has found himself in territories under Azerbaijan's control after losing his bearings near the new line of contact, the National Security Service of the Artsakh revealed, adding that the Armenian side is taking measures to return the civilian home.

The NSS was reported on the disappearance of Armen Verdyan (b. 1971), a resident of Aygestan community of Askeran region, on Wednesday, December 29 morning.

After discovering that Verdyan had been detained by the Azerbaijani military, the Artsakh law enforcers informed the Russian peacekeeping contingent deployed in the region about the incident. Negotiations are currently underway, the NNS added.

In early December, Seyran Sargsyan, another Karabakh civilian, was captured and murdered by the Azerbaijani armed units while working in the field. At least a dozen Karabakh residents have been killed or injured by Azerbaijan since the end of the war in November 2020.
