OSCE calls on Azerbaijan, Armenia to refrain from use of force

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) calls on Azerbaijan and Armenia to refrain from the use of force and engage in a meaningful dialogue to settle the dispute around Nagorno-Karabakh, the Polish OSCE Chairmanship has said, according to Armenpress.

The comments came in response to a request for an assessment of the deadly Azerbaijani attack on Armenian military positions on January 11.

Three Armenian soldiers – Artur Mkhitaryan, Rudik Gharibyan (both born in 2002) and Vahan Babayan (b. 2003) – were killed in Azerbaijan's latest provocation on January 11, the Defense Ministry has said. Two other servicemen were injured in fighting.

“We are closely monitoring the situation in the South Caucasus. We call on Armenia and Azerbaijan to refrain from the use of force and engage in a meaningful dialogue to settle the dispute around Nagorno-Karabakh," the Polish OSCE Chairmanship said.

"Poland as OSCE Chair is committed to working with partners to renew and strengthen our efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace and promoting sustainable development in the region. We will support the effort of the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group in this regard."
