Aliyev: "Zangezur corridor" should cover Armenia's south as a whole

The "Zangezur corridor" should cover the entire Zangezur region in the south of Armenia, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev told local TV channels Wednesday, January 13.

The Azerbaijani side has on multiple occasions raised the question about a "corridor" through the southern Armenian province of Syunik that would connect Nakhijevan to the rest of Azerbaijan. The Armenian side, however, has repeatedly denied being involved in negotiations for the provision of a corridor to Azerbaijan, stressing that they have only agreed to unblock transport communications in the region.

According to him, Azerbaijan is planning to lay power lines to the Nakhijevan Autonomous Republic through Armenia, Interfax.az reports. He also did not rule out the possibility of gas pipelines.

"Through this corridor, both a railway and a road will pass. We are also planning to lay power lines to Nakhijevan in the future, since we have great potential for exporting electricity," Aliyev said in the interview.
