Georgian TV channel Imedi has apologized for a controversial report about matsun, a fermented Armenian dairy product. According to a statement from Yerevan's Embassy in Tbilisi, the broadcaster has blamed the controversy on a "technical error".

Imedi prepared a story about the ban on the export of matsun to the Russian Federation through Georgia, which provoked a scandal. During the coverage, bottles with the dairy product appeared on the screen in the background, featuring the word “matsun” in Georgian, as well as the phrases “Karabakh is Azerbaijan" and “Tolma is also Azerbaijani” in Armenian.

The TV company has now promised to delete the fragment from all social media channels.

The controversy came just days after it was revealed that matsun can no longer be exported to Russia via Georgia since the latter has registered “matsoni” as a geographical indication. The Armenian government is reportedly taking steps to clarify with the Georgian side the use of geographical indications.
