Mirzoyan gives positive assessment of recent Armenia–Turkey meeting

Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has given a positive assessment of a recent meeting between the special representatives of Armenia and Turkey on the normalization of relations between the two countries.

The Deputy Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Ruben Rubinyan and Turkey's former Ambassador to the U.S. Serdar Kılıç held their second meeting on February 24 in Vienna.

"The parties have reaffirmed that the process takes place without preconditions, that the end result of the process is the normalization of relations, and, for us, of course, the opening of the Armenia-Turkey border," Mirzoyan told lawmakers on Thursday, March 3, Armenpress reports.

The Foreign Minister noted that during the second meeting the discussion was much more specific "than the first meeting could have been".

"At the same time, I think we all understand that it is difficult to expect very tangible results even for the second meeting, for a process that must provide solutions to the problems of centuries and decades," he added.
