Lavrov: Russia has accredited first Taliban-appointed Afghan diplomat

The first diplomat appointed by Afghanistan's Taliban government started work in Moscow in February after being accredited by Russia, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has told an Afghanistan-focused conference in China.

That meeting was chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and attended by Afghan acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, and diplomats from Pakistan, Iran, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and Qatar.

The Russian policy chief said it is "unacceptable" for any U.S. or NATO military presence in countries bordering Afghanistan.

Lavrov also said Russia is concerned about the plans of militant group Islamic State to destabilize central Asia and spread instability to the country as well, Reuters reports.
