ICRC visits Armenian captives in Azerbaijan

The representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have visited the Armenian captives being held in Azerbaijan to facilitate communication with their families, Armenpress cited the ICRC Armenia Office as saying on Monday, April 11.

“We have tried to maintain the frequency of contacts in the form of telephone calls, videotaped messages and letters and will continue to do so as long as these persons are in detention”, said Zara Amatuni, the Communication and Prevention Program Manager at ICRC Office in Armenia.

The ICRC does not publish information about the detention conditions of the captives, health-related details and how they are being treated.

Amatuni said on Monday that the purpose of regular visits is to learn more about detention conditions and treatment of prisoners.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced in the Parliament recently that there are currently 38 Armenian captives held by Azerbaijan, including three civilians.
