The government has approved a procedure for voluntary certification of teachers, which means educators who prove compliance with modern requirements will be paid higher salaries.

According to Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Vahram Dumanyan, those who pass the test will receive a salary up to AMD 200,000 (around $400) in accordance with the points gained.

Dumanyan told a Cabinet meeting on Thursday, April 28 that the procedure also envisages a 30-50% premium pay, which could basically raise a teacher's monthly salary to AMD 400,000 (around $800).

1,372 teachers submitted applications to participate in the voluntary certification in 2021, with only 996 of those actually passing certification.
