Lithuania supports Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process – Nausėda

Lithuania supports the achievement of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, President Gitanas Nausėda said in a statement to the media after a meeting with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturian on Friday, May 20.

"As you know, I was in Azerbaijan before I came here. We tried to understand their position, and here we are trying to understand your approaches and position," Nausėda said.

"Dialogue and mutual understanding are very important, because there is no other way forward," he said.

The Lithuanian President said he welcomes the efforts of the Armenian government, especially in the judiciary. "We want you to continue this path of democracy, which will lead to your socio-economic development," he said.

In 1991, when Armenian declared independence from the Soviet Union, Lithuania was the first to recognize the country's sovereignty.
