French ambassador visits Armenia’s war-hit province

Human Rights Defender Kristinne Grigoryan and French Ambassador to Armenia Anne Louyot on Wednesday, October 5 visited the southern province of Syunik, which came under Azerbaijan’s fire in Baku’s latest round of aggression against Armenia.

The two met with governor Robert Ghukasyan and discussed the damage caused to the settlements of the province as a result of Azeri aggression on September 13-15.

Then, accompanied by Ghukasyan and Goris mayor Arush Arushanyan, the Defender and the Ambassador visited the families affected by the offensive. In the Verishen community, they met with residents whose houses were damaged by shelling and artillery bombardments, as well as spoke to a civilian injured in the attack. The man received a shrapnel injury while doing agricultural work.

The latest round of fighting between the two countries began in the wee hours of September 13, when the Azerbaijani military attacked Armenian posts and shelled Armenian settlements both on the border and deep behind the frontline. More than 200 people are dead or missing as a result, the Security Council of Armenia said on Monday.
