Russia sees in the civilian mission of the European Union on the border of Armenia and Azerbaijan as an attempt by the EU to push back Moscow's efforts and intervene in the settlement of relations, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told a briefing on Tuesday, October 11.

"Alas, we unfortunately see in this another attempt by the European Union to intervene in any way in the settlement of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, to push back the mediation efforts of our country," Zakharova said, according to TASS.

"We proceed from the fact that the only key to the reconciliation of Baku and Yerevan, the establishment of lasting peace and long-term stability in the region is the full implementation of the trilateral statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia," Zakharova added.

The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Brussels “prefers not to think” about the consequences of steps for regional stability in the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. According to her, history shows that EU missions have not led to a real settlement of conflicts.

The agreement to deploy an EU mission was reached at a meeting between the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, France and the European Union in Prague on Thursday, October 6.
