10 bodies returned by Azerbaijan identified, buried

In late October, Azerbaijan handed over the bodies of 10 servicemen killed in its latest aggression to Armenia. The DNA examinations have been completed, and all the bodies have been identified and buried, the Ministry of Health has said, according to the Armenian Service of RFE/RL.

Only one of the bodies – that of Abraham Sargsyan – was identified without DNA analyses thanks to his tattoos. Abraham’s father, Artur Sargsyam has many questions about why his son was redeployed to Jermuk where he was ultimately killed.

Azerbaijan has so far returned 143 bodies. 29 people were considered missing after the fighting in mid-September that number has presumably dropped by 10.

At least two dozen families are waiting for information about their loved ones, Aram Torosyan, the father of Vahe Torosyan, says his son remained in a gorge in the southern Armenian province of Syunik.

After the latest round of aggression by Azerbaijan, the bodies of Armenian servicemen remained in the mountains of Verin Shorzha, Jermuk, and Nerkin Hand. The Azerbaijani side is still hindering search operations.
