Aliyev says joint statements left Karabakh conflict in the past

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has said that statements adopted during meetings in Prague and Sochi have left the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the past.

Aliyev said that he and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recognized the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two countries.

“Thus, the Karabakh conflict has remained in history,” Aliyev said.

The latest round of fighting between the two countries began in the wee hours of September 13, when the Azerbaijani military attacked Armenian posts and shelled Armenian settlements both on the border and deep behind the frontline. More than 200 people are dead or missing as a result, the Security Council of Armenia said a few days after the assault.
