Turkish envoy: I will always remember generous aid sent by Armenia

The special representative of Turkey in the Armenia-Turkey settlement process, Serdar Kılıç, has thanked Armenia for its “kind efforts” and for sending humanitarian aid to Turkey’s quake stricken areas.

“I will always remember the generous aid sent by the people of Armenia to help alleviate the sufferings of our people in the earthquake stricken region in [Turkey],” Kılıç said Saturday, February 11.

As reported earlier, Armenian trucks loaded with humanitarian aid crossed the land border to Turkey to deliver essentials to people in earthquake-stricken areas, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vahan Hunanyan said on Saturday.

The land border between Armenia and Turkey has been closed since April 1993. However, in July 2022 the Turkish Ministry for Foreign Affairs announced that the two countries plan to reopen the border "at the earliest possible date", albeit only for third party nationals.

International aid was trickling into parts of Turkey and Syria on Saturday where rescuers toiled to pull children from rubble in areas devastated by a massive earthquake that has killed over 24,000 people, France 24 says.
