Armenian PM: March 1 events revealed, but culprits remain unpunished

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Wednesday, March 1 attended the opening of a monument dedicated to the victims of March 1 and told reporters that the case has been revealed, but the culprits have not yet been punished for various reasons.

A series of anti-government riots took place in Armenia following presidential elections held in 2008. After nine days of peaceful protests at Freedom Square, the national police and military forces tried to disperse the protesters on 1 March. As a result, 10 people were killed.

“But let me say that the fact that the murderers of March 1 have not been found yet does not mean that it will not happen,” Pashinyan said, according to Aysor.am.

“One of the big problems is that, based on the proceedings of the criminal case, it has been proven that the preliminary investigation after March 1, 2008 not only did not make all the efforts to reveal the crime that happened, but also did everything to make the discovery difficult or impossible.”

Pashinyan said a full and complete disclosure should be achieved.
