EU urges Turkey to overcome hang-up in reform process
The European Union urged Turkey to overcome the hang-up in the reform process.
"The reform process in Turkey needs a new impulse," Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberger said after talks with his Turkish counterpart Ali Babacan in Prague.
Schwarzenberger, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the Union, chaired the meeting, which was attended also by the Foreign Minister Carl Bildt of Sweden, the next EU president, and Olli Rehn, the European Commissioner for Enlargement.
Turkey started its accession talks with the EU in 2005 but it has only opened ten out of the entire 36 chapters that each candidate country must close with Brussels, Makfax reports.
